More than one month after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake, approximately 487,000 people have been affected across 500 municipalities in 16 departments, with the most severe impacts reported in Valle del Cauca, Risaralda, Chocó, Quindío and Caldas. The potential onset of a severe El Niño event could further exacerbate humanitarian and recovery needs.

Communities are facing multiple, simultaneous crises. In addition to the impact of the earthquake, people continue to experience pre-existing effects of the armed conflict, including displacement, confinement and restricted access to essential services. These factors increase population vulnerability and place additional strain on institutional response capacities.

The Government and international partners continue to deliver a coordinated response. Institutions within the National Disaster Risk Management System (SNGRD) are providing sectoral assistance in coordination with territorial authorities. United Nations agencies and humanitarian partners continue to work together to deliver health care, water, sanitation and hygiene services, food security support, shelter, protection and early recovery assistance. To date, 31 organizations have supported more than 137,000 people in 53 prioritized municipalities.

Significant needs and funding gaps persist. While recovery efforts are advancing through the development of the Specific Action Plan for Recovery (PAE), the humanitarian response still faces a 52 per cent funding gap against the US$619 million required to address the multisectoral needs of affected populations through the end of 2026.
