El Niño alert: One of the strongest episodes in decades threatens over 1 million people in IPC Phase 3+. WFP urgently requires USD 26 million—USD 6.3 million for anticipatory action and USD 19.7 million for food and school meals during October–January critical period.
Beneficiary coverage decreased in August due to seasonal school closures and the voluntary return of Congolese refugees.
In August, WFP prioritized preparations for the new school year, strengthening systems and local procurement. Together with national authorities, WFP mapped 217 farmer cooperatives and 35 millers, while 26 communes launched tenders to source food locally laying the groundwork for sustainable school feeding.
